Fatigue And Nausea After Eating

headaches, nausea, fatigue and dizziness… what’s the cause?

It is fairly normal for a persons energy levels to dip after eating. This happens because the body redirects blood to the digestive system to help break down food in the stomach.

Eating too much may cause a large dip in energy levels since the body has more food to digest. Overeating may also cause feelings of fullness or nausea.

Symptoms of fatigue and nausea after eating can sometimes signal a digestive issue. Other possible symptoms of a digestive disease include:

  • getting a lot of fresh air
  • finding distractions, such as listening to music, watching a movie, or reading a book

In addition, people should avoid the following:

  • preparing or eating strong-smelling foods
  • eating foods that are spicy, fried, or greasy
  • eating too fast

Red Streaks Under The Skin

If red streaks appear and radiate from a wound, that could signal a very serious bacterial infection called lymphangitis. It happens when bacteriamost often strep or staphenter the lymphatic system and head toward the closest lymph gland. Often incorrectly referred to as blood poisoning, lymphangitis is accompanied by symptoms that include high fever, swelling, redness, and pain at the wound site. While antibiotics should clear this up, it could take weeks or even months to heal fully. If left unchecked, you could develop deadly complications like sepsis. Now, check out these 42 strange symptoms that could indicate a serious disease.

What Is Chronic Fatigue Syndrome

Headache Nausea Dizziness Diarrhea

Chronic fatigue syndrome is a complicated disease for doctors to diagnose and even fully understand.

CFS is a physical condition, but it can also affect a person psychologically. This means that someone with CFS may feel physical symptoms, such as being very tired and weak , headaches, or dizziness. But the person may also notice emotional symptoms, such as a loss of interest in favorite activities.

To make it even more complicated, different people with CFS can have different symptoms. And the symptoms of CFS often are similar those of other health conditions, like mono, Lyme disease, or depression. And the symptoms can vary over time, even in the same person.

This makes treating the illness complicated because no single medicine or treatment can address all the possible symptoms.

A Sharp Tearing Pain In Your Upper Back

If this severe pain comes on suddenly, theres a very serious possibility that you have an aortic dissection. This condition most commonly occurs in elderly people with uncontrolled blood pressure. It happens when the inner layer of a weak artery tears and blood starts gushing through the new hole, causing the inner and middle layers to dissect . Up to 20 percent of people who suffer an aortic dissection will go on to have an acute rupture, and that could be fatal within seconds. Pain also sometimes starts in the chest and presents much like a heart attack. Either way, youll want to see a doctor, because youll likely need emergency surgery.

Change In Bowel Movement Frequency

There is no magic number of bowel movements we should all be having each day. Some people go three-to-four times a day, and that is normal for them. Others only move their bowels once a day and that is their normal. However, if you or a loved one experiences a significant change in bowel movement frequency, whether more or less often, its important to discuss this change with your healthcare provider.

What Is The Treatment For Covid

There is no specific treatment for COVID-19, and supportive care is aimed at relieving symptoms in mild cases.

Patients with mild illness are usually advised to remain home and self-isolate for 14 days to avoid spreading the virus. Treatments for mild COVID-19 symptoms include:

  • Pain relievers
  • Antithrombotic therapy – anticoagulants and antiplatelet therapy
  • High-flow nasal cannula oxygen
  • Ventilation

Ivermectin, an antiparasitic drug, is being studied as a potential treatment for COVID-19. Currently, the available clinical data on the use of ivermectin to treat COVID-19 are limited and the Centers for Disease Control recommends against the use of ivermectin for the treatment of COVID-19, except in a clinical trial.

Colchicine, an anti-gout medication, is also being studied in a clinical trial to determine if short-term treatment with colchicine will reduce lung complications and the rate of death in COVID-19 patients. It is not currently approved for use to treat patients for COVID-19.

Current guidelines neither recommend nor advise against the use of vitamin C, vitamin D, or zinc. Zinc should not be taken in doses above the recommended daily allowance due to the risk of toxicity.

Hydroxychloroquine was touted as a possible treatment in the past, but studies to date have shown it to be ineffective with a high risk of fatal heart arrhythmias, and it is not recommended.

Chronic Constipation Or Constipation Alternating With Diarrhea

What is Diarrhea? Causes, Signs and Symptoms, Diagnosis and Treatment.

It is normal to occasionally feel constipatedhaving difficulty moving bowels or infrequent bowel movements. There are a variety of reasons why someone may experience occasional constipation. But if you or a loved one is frequently experiencing constipation, or constipation alternating with diarrhea, it is important to see a healthcare provider or gastroenterologist. Your healthcare provider will be able to run tests to determine the cause of the constipation and recommend for the best course of treatment for you or your loved one.

When To See A Doctor

Headaches can have many causes, such as stress or dehydration. Similarly, any number of everyday triggers can cause nausea and fatigue.

However, it is important to see a doctor if these three symptoms are severe, long lasting, or affect daily activities.

When headaches, nausea, and fatigue appear together, they may be symptoms underlying another health condition.

Treatment For Headaches And Nausea

A number of things can ease migraine with nausea. They include:

  • Lifestyle changes. Stress is a common trigger for nauseating migraine headaches. Find ways to cut it, and your attacks could get less severe and happen less often. What else helps? Quit smoking, and keep a diary to identify any foods that trigger your headaches. Common culprits include chocolate and alcohol.
  • Medications. Your doctor might prescribe drugs to prevent migraine headaches, to stop them once they’ve started, and to ease your symptoms. You can also take anti-nausea medications during your headache. They come in different forms, like pills, suppositories, syrups, and shots. They have a number of side effects, so work with your doctor to find the best one for you.
  • Complementary treatments. Some evidence shows that biofeedback and acupuncture may help ease migraine and related symptoms, such as nausea. Meditation can also help.

Abnormal Swelling While Pregnant

Nausea Diarrhea Headache Dizziness

You may feel as if youre swollen everywhere when youre pregnant. That feeling is a problem, however, when the swelling is visible and extremeand localized in your face, hands, and feet. That could be a sign of preeclampsia, which happens when your blood pressure skyrockets and your kidney function is compromised. Preeclampsia is dangerous and potentially fatal when not treated. If diagnosed with it, you will be monitored closely by your doctor, who may prescribe blood pressure medication and recommend rest. Depending on the severity of your case and how far along you are in the pregnancy, you may also need to deliver before your due date. Make sure youre familiar with these 11 silent signs of preeclampsia.

How Are Abdominal Pain And Dizziness Diagnosed

Your doctor will perform a physical exam and ask about your medical history to help make a diagnosis. Explaining your symptoms in detail will help your doctor determine the cause.

For example, upper abdominal pain may be a sign of a peptic ulcer, pancreatitis, or gallbladder disease. Lower right abdominal pain can be a sign of kidney stones, appendicitis, or ovarian cysts.

Be mindful of the severity of your dizziness. Its important to note that lightheadedness feels like youre about to faint, whereas vertigo is the sensation that your environment is moving.

Experiencing vertigo is more likely to be an issue with your sensory system. Its usually an inner ear disorder rather than a result of poor blood circulation.

When To Call The Doctor

  • Chills persist even when you dont have a fever.
  • You have a cough, cold, or sore throat you cant seem to shake.
  • You experience body aches even when you havent exercised or exerted yourself.
  • You have night sweats.
  • You have a low-grade fever that doesnt resolve, or seems to come and go.
  • You notice hair or skin changes like your hair falling out.
  • Youve had unexplained weight loss.
  • You experience fatigue regardless of how much youve slept.
  • You experience constipation or diarrhea despite dietary changes.

Resting in an upright position can reduce abdominal bloating and nausea related to acid reflux. This position reduces the acids flow up your esophagus. Physical activity can worsen symptoms when you feel nauseated.

Drinking clear fluids that contain natural sugar, such as sports drinks or Pedialyte, may help settle your stomach. However, drinking artificially flavored beverages and those made with sugar alcohols may contribute to abdominal bloating.

Persistent Leg Pain On One Side May Be A Blood Clot

Daily Stomach Ache, Headache, Nausea: Christine’s Binocular Vision Dysfunction Story

Swelling and pain in one leg that doesnt go away may signal that you have a blood clot inside a vein, known as deep vein thrombosis . These signs should be tended to at once, particularly if youre at higher risk for DVT. Risk factors that make DVT blood clots more likely get riskier with age. These include smoking, having surgery, being on estrogen-containing pills or hormone therapy, being immobile for a long period of time , being pregnant, and recently giving birth. A life-threatening pulmonary embolism can occur when a blood clot moves from one part of your body to your lungs and blocks a vital artery there. According to Dr. Simmons, about 70 percent of blood clots that travel to the lungs begin in the legs.

This combination of symptoms and signs is common in gastroenteritis, food poisoning, or travelers diarrhea. Dizziness and feeling faint in this context is usually secondary to dehydration from diarrhea. Diarrhea can be a side effect of chemotherapy or radiation therapy . It could be irritable bowel syndrome or inflammatory bowel syndrome, or rarely a colon cancer.

While the list below can be considered as a guide to educate yourself about these conditions, this is not a substitute for a diagnosis from a health care provider. There are many other medical conditions that also can be associated with your symptoms and signs. Here are a number of those from MedicineNet:

Treatment Is A Long And Winding Road

The Center for Post-COVID Care at Mount Sinai Health System, in New York City, was the first of its kind to open back up in May. So far, the center has seen more than 1600 patients — including Reagan and Condra — and there’s a months-long wait to get an appointment.

“It’s very hard to predict who will get these symptoms,” Dr. Zijian Chen, the medical director, told me when I interviewed him last summer. “The patients we’re seeing at the center are, you know, of all races. They span in age from the 20s to 70s and 80s. You have patients who are both male and female, of equal distribution.”

He said having mild illness or being healthy to begin with, is no protection from having persistent symptoms.

“I would presume that if … you had a pre-existing condition, that the infection with the virus can worsen that condition. But again, we’re also seeing patients who are previously healthy, had somewhat relatively mild illness,” Chen said.

Age, he said, isn’t a predictor either.

Another baffling aspect of post-COVID syndrome is the vast and seemingly random array of health issues that some patients face.

Dr. Christian Sandrock is a professor of medicine in pulmonary critical care and infectious diseases at UC Davis School of Medicine, in Sacramento, California. As director of critical care, he is one of the doctors who assesses patients at UC Davis’ Post-COVID-19 Clinic. It was the first such center in the region to open its doors, back in October.

How Are Abdominal Bloating And Nausea Treated

Abdominal bloating and nausea related to foods you eat will typically resolve after your body has had time to digest whatever has upset your stomach. Common food intolerances include lactose and gluten. Avoid eating any foods that you determine are causing abdominal bloating and nausea.

Your doctor may prescribe medication if you have underlying conditions such as acid reflux or constipation. More serious disorders, such as congestive heart failure or dumping syndrome, may require prolonged treatments.

Chest Pain Under Strain Get It Checked Out

In older white males, we know chest pain may be a sign of heart attack. But we havent gotten that same sort of education with women, Baechler says. Women fear breast cancer more than heart disease, but they are more likely to have heart disease. In fact, heart disease is the No.1 killer of women in America today, causing more deaths than all types of cancer combined.

If you lift something and have chest pain that youve never had before, get it checked out. You should also see your doctor about any new chest pain when you walk upstairs or exert yourself in some way. This is particularly important if the pain goes away after a short period of rest. Women are more likely than men to have atypical symptoms of a heart attack: shortness of breath, dizziness, nausea and vomiting, extreme fatigue, a cold sweat, or pain in the arms, back, neck, or stomach, Baechler says. Get these, and any of the more traditional symptoms, checked out.

More Research Is Needed

Headache Nausea Diarrhea Dizziness

Both Sandrock and McCarthy say much more research is needed to better understand post-COVID syndrome, including who gets it and best treatment practices. But they’re optimistic about the future, now that the condition has been recognized and “science is getting behind it,” as McCarthy put it.

“So, people are coming together both in systems, and then systems coming together nationally, and then internationally. So, there’s been this mass collaboration of scientists and health care professionals that are looking for answers. And that takes time. But I’m very happy to report that,” she said.

Sandrock said he was excited to learn that the National Institutes of Health recently announced it would be offering research grants as part of its “Post-Acute Sequelae of SARS-CoV-2 Infection ” initiative.

Biden says life may be back to normal by Christmas 2021

As for Michael Reagan and Stephanie Condra, they’re carrying on as best they can.

“Every day I make the conscious decision to be optimistic and to be positive. I can’t always control what circumstances life throws at me, but I can control how I carry myself. If I carry myself with grace and dignity that I’m going to be OK,” Reagan said. “I have a very supportive family. I have a supportive partner. I have job coworkers that understand. I have excellent doctors. So, I try to look at things I am grateful for.”
