What Is Adrenal Fatigue
The adrenal glands are located in your kidneys. These glands produce regulatory hormones, like cortisol, which regulates your blood pressure, metabolism, and even your nervous system.
But the biggest thing cortisol is known for is the bodys response to stress.

Bone Up On Calcium And Vitamin D
According to the NMSS, research is increasingly showing that low vitamin D levels in the blood may be a risk factor for developing MS, though more research is needed to find out whether vitamin D has any impact on disease activity in people with the condition.
But experts do know that getting enough vitamin D and calcium is key for bone health among people who already have MS.
Its a good idea to incorporate foods high in vitamin D and calcium into your diet, especially if you have been on steroids for a long time, Eng says, because one side effect of steroids is poor bone health. Low levels of weight-bearing activity, such as walking, can also lead to weak bones and a higher fracture risk.
Steroids are often prescribed only as a short-term, first-line treatment for MS exacerbations usually for three to five days via IV, and sometimes followed by a tapering oral dose for one to three weeks.
But some comorbid conditions that are common in people with MS, including inflammatory bowel diseases like Crohns disease or ulcerative colitis, require long-term steroid use. And per the NMSS, steroid treatment can lead to bone loss if used for prolonged periods of time.

Good food sources of vitamin D include fortified milk and orange juice, cod liver oil, and fatty fish. Small amounts of vitamin D are naturally present in egg yolks and cheese.

Putting It All Together
There is one well-studied diet that has been shown to have a positive effect on mental health. 2The Mediterranean diet, which provides a wide variety of the foods previously mention, was shown to help reduce depression by up to 16% when compared to people following a typically Western diet. 18 Other research has shown an even bigger decrease in the risk of up to 35% lower. 14 The traditional Japanese, Norwegian, and Chinese diets have also been associated with improved mood likely because they all are rich in vegetables and fish. Other diets that show high potential include The Mind Diet and the Dash Diet.
Along with the foods you eat are foods you may want to avoid, as they can lead to depression and fatigue. These include processed and refined sugars and other carbohydrates as well as refined fats as found in prepackaged pastries, cookies, and white bread and processed meats like bacon, hot dogs, and sausage. Eating a lot of fast food has also been associated with increase risk for depression and fatigue. 19
Soda is also a common culprit for decreased mood and energy crashes. 20 Cutting back on sugar in general has been shown in research to help decrease the risk of depression significantly. 20 Eating only modest amounts of meats and dairy may also help support mental health. 14
What Is Nutrition For Tiredness
A nutritional plan to combat fatigue will revolve around energy-boosting foods. Thats foods that form part of a balanced diet and provide optimum nutritional value to support bodily functions, improve emotional and physical health and promote overall well-being. A healthy balance of all the main food groups – starchy foods, five portions of fruits and vegetables, dairy and protein – is considered essential to help combat tiredness in the long-term.
Remember, no single food, including those mythical superfoods, can compensate for unhealthy eating. And there’s no evidence that one single food can provide an energy boost. Its all about balance.
Tiredness can have a big effect on our appetite. Some people find that they are more hungry, or crave the wrong types of foods when experiencing fatigue, whilst others may lose their appetite when tired. To combat this, eating at regular times important, as this helps to keep your blood sugar levels steady for longer periods, which keeps tiredness at bay.
It would be better to never skip a meal and focus on slow-burning starches such as oats, whole grain bread, rice, pasta and breakfast cereals to provide a slow gradual energy release, as well as a good dose of nutrients and minerals.
