Why Is My Leg Weakness Spreading

The surprising reason our muscles get tired – Christian Moro

Some causes of leg weakness can lead to weakness that spreads up or down the body. Were Worried About Syringe Shortage Says Prof Glenda Gray

We are not going to withhold a vaccine. We would rather work with you to do it properly and we have had some people, who have had severe allergies who called us before they got the vaccine. We were able to manage that whole process much better. Dont be scared to tell us if you have had any severe allergies from vaccines.

Speaking at the same webinar, Dr Simbarashe Takuva revealed out of the 145 215 vaccinations, about 3 030 adverse events had been reported.

Takavu said some of the common adverse effects reported in the Sisonke implementation study included a small swelling, redness, induration/hardness and a rash. He said they had not seen any adverse events that were of concern.

If you experience either rash, hives, difficulty breathing or a bad reaction, contact a medical provider. For pain or fever, you may take pain medication like paracetamol or ibuprofen. Apply a cool, wet cloth over the injected area.

Individuals who are experiencing side effects or adverse effects may report via three different streams which are:

  • The safety desk call centre at 0800 014 956.
  • The electronic adverse report form which is available on the electronic vaccination data system .
  • Data is also captured manually from forms that are found at health facilities.

Care Advice For Normal Fatigue

  • What You Should Know About Normal Fatigue When Sick:
  • Children who are sick are often less active.
  • They become easily tired and need extra rest. They take extra naps and sleep longer hours for many days. As long as your child is alert when awake, extra sleeping is normal.
  • This is different than the normal fatigue from exercise. Examples are a soccer game, manual labor or a long hike. This type of fatigue does not last long. It responds to a good nights sleep.
  • Sick children also are less hungry for meals but like to drink fluids. As long as they stay hydrated, this is normal.
  • Here is some care advice that should help.
  • Trust Your Child to Choose the Right Activity Level:
  • When they are awake, most sick kids want to watch TV. Some want to play with their toys. A few may want to play outside. Thats also fine.
  • If they are feeling badly, they may just want to rest. They may prefer to stay in bed or on the sofa for a day or two.
  • As long as they are alert and able to walk normally, this is normal.
  • Avoid Trying to Force Bed Rest When Awake:
  • Most children sleep extra hours when they are sick with any infection. Their body tells them how much sleep they need. Getting enough sleep helps them fight the infection. Let them choose the amount.
  • Trying to force extra bed rest is not helpful for common childhood illness.
  • It doesnt reduce symptoms.
  • Weakness occurs
  • Fever lasts more than 3 days
  • Extra sleepiness lasts more than 1 week
  • Fatigue lasts more than 2 weeks

Helping People Around You Understand Fatigue

Fatigue is a major symptom of many conditions, such as arthritis often its as much of a problem as pain and inflammation. But its an invisible symptom and a lot of people avoid talking about it because they think their family, friends and colleagues wont understand.

It can be stressful if you think people around you dont understand how youre feeling. Even when you explain, some people may struggle to realise how fatigue affects you and that it stops you doing certain activities. This can be frustrating and tiring and can put a big strain on your relationships. Getting help, support and understanding from the people around you can make a huge difference.

Good communication and explaining clearly and calmly how fatigue affects you is important to help others understand.

Its ok to say that you need help with tasks around the home.

Learning to say you cant do something or go somewhere because of the way it will affect you can help. It may also reassure people that sometimes you just dont feel up to socialising and its no reflection on their company.

If people ask for your help with something, remember its ok to say no. Its ok to put yourself first.

If you find it difficult to talk about your fatigue, you could ask people to read this information.

    Treatments For Muscle Fatigue

    Fatigue Sore Muscles And Joints

When muscle fatigue is the result of strenuous activity or aging, treatment is usually unnecessary. In other cases, a doctor will try to identify the underlying cause of muscle fatigue and offer treatment.

An example of this is when a doctor recommends a healthy diet and regular exercise if obesity is causing muscle fatigue. As a person loses weight, they should notice their muscle fatigue getting better over time.

There are no formal guidelines for treating muscle fatigue as a symptom. But there are several possibilities for people experiencing muscle fatigue from strenuous activity or aging.

How Is Chronic Fatigue Syndrome Diagnosed

CFS is difficult to diagnose. Some people have a hard time accepting CFS as a disease. Its important to remember that your fatigue is real and that you can work with your doctor to improve your symptoms.

The first step is to see if there is any other explainable cause for your fatigue. Your doctor will probably want to review your symptoms and medical history and give you a physical exam. Your doctor may also want to do some blood tests, but lab testing is not often helpful in the diagnosis of CFS.

How Is Chronic Fatigue Syndrome Treated

There’s no known cure for chronic fatigue syndrome, but the symptoms can be treated. Experts suggest focusing on the most disruptive symptoms first, and working with a doctor to manage them:

    • Post-exertional malaise. For someone whose symptoms get worse after even mild activity, experts suggest pacing their activities. This means planning for a balance of activity and rest based on what the person feels are their limits. This can be different from one person to the next. Someone with CFS should not be pushed to do more than they feel they can tolerate, as this can lead to a crash, or worsening of symptoms.
    • Dizziness. People who get dizzy or feel weak or lightheaded when they sit up or stand might need to drink more fluids, use more salt in their foods, or wear support stockings.
    • Sleep problems. Getting good sleep can help someone overcome CFS-related sleep problems.
    • Problems with concentration and memory. Finding ways to keep track of important things can help with concentration or memory problems.
    • Headaches and stomachaches. Gentle massage and heat may help some people with pain from CFS.

Doctors may also suggest over-the-counter or prescription medicines for some of these symptoms.

Clinical Burden Of Chronic Pain And Fatigue

Further understanding of pain and fatigue is clinically important as they are among the most frequent symptoms reported by patients. When these symptoms are persistent or unexplained they are associated with poorer quality of life and higher costs than other patient groups. They also pose a diagnostic conundrum and have a significant impact on healthcare utilisation costs and significant indirect costs.

Fibromyalgia is characterised by chronic pain, fatigue and what are described as functional symptoms. Myalgic encephalomyelitis / chronic fatigue syndrome is a complex, chronic condition characterised by symptom clusters that include pathological fatigue and malaise that is worse after exertion, cognitive dysfunction, immune dysfunction, unrefreshing sleep, pain, autonomic dysfunction, neuroendocrine and immune symptoms.

Chronic pain affects between one-third and one-half of the population of the UK, whereby fibromyalgia has a reported prevalence of 5%. In a population-based sample of middle-aged individuals, fatigue was present in one out of five subjects.

    • Tenderness when pain is most severe

Due to the fact that there are some serious conditions that can manifest with chronic body aches and fatigue, it is critical that you make an appointment with your physician to get checked out.

Following are some of the common conditions that manifest with these symptoms:

What Are The Causes Of Muscle Weakness

Muscle weakness is commonly due to lack of exercise, ageing, muscle injury or pregnancy. It can also occur with long-term conditions such as diabetes or heart disease. There are many other possible causes, which include stroke, multiple sclerosis, depression, fibromyalgia and chronic fatigue syndrome .

Chronic Fatigue Symptoms & Its Relation To Joint Pain

Obviously, the most prevalent symptom of this condition is fatigue, but theres more to it than just that. Many people who have this disorder also experience muscle and joint pain, enlarged lymph nodes, sore throat, memory loss, poor sleep, low-grade fever, and headaches.8,9,10 Since this is a disorder that typically goes on for many months or even years, chronic fatigue is also known to lead to depression.

Stretch If You Feel Like It

Causes Of Muscle Aches And Fatigue

For something so many of us do either before or after exercise, there isn’t a whole lot of evidence that stretching is effective at reducing injury risk.

“A lot of athletes say that if they don’t stretch, they feel more sore the next day,” Dr Halson said.

“But in terms of scientific evidence to say we should be stretching after exercise, there’s not a huge amount.”

For those who find it beneficial, there’s no reason to stop, she said.

“Stretching can be something that might reduce soreness and stiffness, especially if you’re someone that’s doing something you’re not really accustomed to.”

    What Else Causes Fatigue

Some lifestyle habits can make you feel tired. Here are some things that may be draining your energy:

    • Staying up too late. A good night’s sleep is important to feeling refreshed and energetic. Try going to bed and waking up at the same time every day.
    • Having too much caffeine. Drinking caffeinated drinks like soda, tea, or coffee late in the day can keep you from getting a good night’s sleep. Limit the amount of caffeine you have during the day and avoid it in the evening.
    • Drinking too much alcohol.Alcohol changes the way you think and act. It may also interact with your medicines.
    • Eating junk food. Say “no thanks” to food with empty calories, like fried foods and sweets, which have few nutrients and are high in fat and sugars. Choose nutritious foods to get the energy you need to do the things you enjoy.
    • Getting too little or too much exercise. Regular exercise can boost your energy levels, but dont overdo it.

The Initial Causes Symptoms: Muscle Pain Fatigue Muscle Weakness Joint Stiffness

Joint pain may be caused by a variety of causes. Inflammation and infection can affect the joints, and it is necessary to see a doctor to get a proper diagnosis. However, certain types of joint pain are not a serious health problem and can be treated by yourself. Moreover, joint pain can be the result of a broader range of factors, such as stress, illness, and genetics. When you have recurring joint pain, you should seek help from a doctor as early as possible.

Inflammation and pain in the joint can be caused by many conditions, including RA and sacroiliac joint inflammation. The inflammation of a joint causes the pain. For example, a person suffering from RA may experience lower back pain or iliosacral joint pain. These problems can occur in both the upper and lower back. When the sacral bone becomes inflamed, there will be inflammation of the sacral joint. The painful area is called the sacroiliac bone.

In addition to RA and gout, joint pain can also be the result of numerous medical conditions. For instance, a person suffering from fibromyalgia will experience joint pain that is accompanied by fever, fatigue, and difficulty walking. The symptoms of these conditions can be triggered by a number of factors, but the most common underlying cause of the pain will most likely be a joint disorder. A person suffering from fibromyalgia arthritis may experience a painful condition known as septic arthritis. Symptoms: Muscle Pain, Fatigue, Muscle Weakness, Joint Stiffness

    Can Emotions Cause Fatigue

Are you fearful about the future? Do you worry about your health and who will take care of you? Are you afraid you are no longer needed? Emotional stresses like these can take a toll on your energy. Fatigue can be linked to many conditions, including:

    • Stress from financial or personal problems
    • Feeling that you no longer have control over your life

Not getting enough sleep can also contribute to fatigue. Regular physical activity can improve your sleep. It may also help reduce feelings of depression and stress while improving your mood and overall well-being. Yoga, meditation, or cognitive behavioral therapy could also help you get more rest. Talk with your doctor if your mental well-being is affecting your sleep or making you tired.

Over-the-counter pain medication and nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs are effective for moderate and severe cases. However, some cases of osteoarthritis dont respond well to these medications, and doctors will usually advise patients to seek medical advice before having surgery. If osteoarthritis is not yet severe enough, doctors will often prescribe over-the-counter medication to help reduce pain. In the worst-case scenario, they may prescribe a special drug to alleviate the symptoms.

In the case of severe cases, a doctor may prescribe corticosteroid injections to reduce inflammation in the affected joints. Repeated corticosteroids, however, can be damaging to cartilage. For severe cases, the doctor may prescribe joint replacement. This is a surgical procedure that replaces the damaged joint surfaces with artificial ones. It is often an expensive and lengthy procedure, but it will reduce the pain and improve the function of the joint.

As with other types of osteoarthritis, MIV-711 has the potential to reverse or slow down the progression of the disease. The drug has also shown promise in reducing the progression of osteoarthritis. In addition, MIV-711 has the potential to reduce the symptoms of osteoarthritis in the affected joints. This drug has been developed in a laboratory and is currently being tested on a clinical trial in patients with the condition.

Diagnostic Criteria For Me/cfs Using The National Academy Of Medicine Clinical Criteria

For a diagnosis of ME/CFS, the person must have the following three symptoms:

  • Substantial reduction in functioning and persistent and profound fatigue for at least 6 months. The person is unable to undertake the same level of activity before they became ill. Their fatigue is not the result of significant exertion and is not substantially alleviated by rest.
  • Post-exertional malaise.
  • Diagnosis also requires at least one of the following two symptoms:

  • Cognitive impairment .
  • Orthostatic intolerance .
  • It is important to note that these are not the only symptoms of ME/CFS, just the minimum needed to meet the diagnostic criteria.

While diagnosis requires that a person has had symptoms continually for six months, early intervention with pacing and rest can help reduce symptoms, improve quality of life and reduce the risk of exacerbating the disease. Research suggests that patients who are able to pace their activity and not push themselves tend to do better in the long term. Pacing and rest can start even prior to an official diagnosis.

While there is currently no cure and no evidence-based treatments, it is important to find a doctor who is not only sympathetic to ME/CFS, but can work with you to help manage your symptoms.
