How to Clean an Anti-Fatigue Kitchen Mat
  • KMAT Cushioned Anti-Fatigue Mat: This KMAT anti-fatigue mat received low marks on comfort and ease of cleaning from our Lab testers. It has a cool design and comes at a fair price, but our testers were disappointed by its lack of support and comfort. They remarked that it was hard and thin and felt flat-footed.
  • Ninja Brand Premium Floor Comfort Mat: Although this Ninja Brand mat looks attractive with its textured surface and color options, it failed to deliver impressive results during testing. The cushioning did not provide even support, and our tester reported that the heels of her feet could feel the floor through the mat.
  • Sky Solutions Oasis Anti Fatigue Mat: We featured another mat from Sky Solutions in this roundup that performed great overall, but this specific Oasis model fell short of expectations during Lab testing. Although it claims to be nonslip, testers found that it was prone to slipping around and needed more traction on the bottom. It also was not as soft or cushiony as expected. The textured surface gives your feet a better grip on the mat but makes it harder to clean.

Quality Construction Reduced Tripping Hazards

Serious Eats / Fred Hardy

Some of the mats experienced a slight flare around their edges and corners, while others sat firmly and entirely on the floor. At first, we wrote off the flare as a minor aesthetic flawit looked sloppybut after our daily use test, we realized that flared edges can be a tripping hazard, too. While stepping onto the mat, it was easy to trip or scuff the lifted edge, especially if we had our eyes elsewhere, or were shuffling our feet. We also experienced awkward step-ons and step-offs with one of our competitors, which featured a large bevel and a towering 9/10-inch height.

While moving about a kitchen with hot pans, knives, and other sharp objects always presents hazards, a central piece of equipment that ups the risk factor is unnecessary. Price does matter here: the two sturdiest mats were also the most expensive.

How To Clean Your Anti

Depending on the type of mat you buy, there are different cleaning methods. Most mats that are made of rubber with a gel or foam core can be swept and mopped just like any other kind of flooring. Some types of rubber mats can be taken outside and washed with a hose. Other types, such as the Nevermove mat by Gelpro are machine-washable.

There is a vast range of designs available on this product, ranging from different patterns and stone effects to bolder options like camo and the Texas flag. The pros and cons of this floor mat.

PROS

  • The shape of the long, thin mat

CONS

  • misconceptions over the material used
  • a lack of grip underneath

The design of the mat also benefits from beveled edges that should never curl unlike those above and that makes the mat a little safer. Therefore, this should have greater appeal with carers and relatives buying this for their older relatives.

Again, there are lots of size options, with an of an inch thick foam. The 30 by 108-inch model is particularly appealing because of its long thin shape. This means a wider maximum reach so that users can move between different areas. It is designed with standing desks in mind but is just as practical for food preparation areas in a kitchen.

There is room for improvement with the underside of this product. Still, there is no doubt that the designers put a lot of work into the surface. The wider length, fun designs and thick foam mean that this could be an attractive and practical option for many homes.

When it comes to the design of these comfort mats, there is a focus on a more classic, antique look. There is a nice pattern reminiscent of ironwork that curls across the surface of the mat. The colors of the background also have a rustic, metallic feel. This look will suit a lot of older relatives and seniors in care that dont want anything too modern in their home. There is also a cloverleaf pattern with a similar antique effect running through it. There are alternative patterns, but these are some of the most popular.

The pros and cons with this floor mat.

PROS

  • A decent range of sizes.

CONS

  • The inconsistencies in the foam across the different sizes
  • Questions over the cost

Otherwise. There are many of the same benefits that we saw before with these products. This one promises to be especially easy to clean as it is both stain and mold resistant. It Is also meant to be vacuum friendly thanks to the texture of the surface. There are also a few different sizes to choose from, depending on your maximum reach and nice use of gel foam for reliable cushioning.

There is an interesting review from one buyer that bought a large and small and says that the consistency of the foam differs between the too. The larger is more firm, for some reason. There are also some people that wonder why this brand is a little more expensive than others when there are no special features or properties to it.

The Surface Texture Was Important For Safety And Maintenance

Serious Eats / Fred Hardy

Some of the mats we tested had a slick, slippery surface. Although it made cleanup easier, we didnt like using these mats in socks or slippers. An accidental slip or slide is annoying at best, but dangerous when working with knives or heat. Since so many kitchen tasks involve one of the two, it’s hard to argue in favor of an ultra-smooth mat topper.

On the other hand, very textured surfaceslike pebbled or waffle-weave toppersmade cleanup unnecessarily challenging. One of the mats we tested had grooves so tiny, only a toothpick could dislodge small crumbs .

Our favorite anti-fatigue mats had slightly different textures that both worked well. The House of Noa mat topper was slightly rough, which discouraged slipping. On the other hand, the Office Depot GelPro mat had a rubbery, grippy texture on its surface that felt virtually accident-proof.

For a simple yet effective anti-fatigue mat, consider the Sky Mat. This reasonably priced option comes in three sizes and several colors, letting you choose the best fit for your kitchen. The anti-fatigue mat is 0.75 inches thick and made from the companys patented foam, which is described as the perfect blend of support and softness for standing all day.” The mat has a beveled edge to prevent tripping, as well as a nonslip bottom.

Further, the Sky Mat is designed to be durable and is easy to wipe clean if you spill anything on it. Our Lab testers experimented with spilling flour and molasses on the mat and confirmed that it easily rinsed right off without issues. However, they do recommend choosing the black color over the other options so that it’s less likely to show any unsightly dirt. Even after hours of being on their feet in the Lab, testers noted that the mat still felt quite firm and supportive, thanks to its plush memory foam construction.

Gorilla Grip Original Anti

WiseLife Kitchen Mat Cushioned Anti

The pros and cons of this floor mat.

PROS

  • The different colors to suit different decors
  • The optimal thickness with heavy duty materials
  • Different size options for different needs

CONS

  • The grip isnt as strong as some had expected
  • Some issues with tough stains.

One of the benefits of this mat is that it is seen as a safe option, with a lack of phthalates and other toxic components. This sounds like something that should be a guarantee with these senior-friendly anti-fatigue products.

However, there are some cheaper models that have questionable coatings and give off a bit of a smell. There is also the promise of durability, easy-clean water resistant material for the kitchen.

Unfortunately, there are some limitations to the cleaning when it comes to tougher stains. There is also an issue with the grip on the bottom of the mat. There are multiple reviews from users that say it slides too easily for their liking. It may need some additional aids here with users that are more vulnerable.

Is it recommendable?

This first option has its flaws that may be off-putting to some carers trying to find the ideal product for a less-able homeowner. However, the issues with the grip arent that uncommon. If you are able to put up with some tough cleaning or a few stains this could still be a great choice. The foam, size and safe materials all prove to be helpful.

The Criteria: What To Look For In An Anti

Serious Eats / Fred Hardy

The best anti-fatigue mats have a moderately high density, which allows the foam to mold around your feet without a feeling of sinking in. We favored mats with well-constructed, heavier edges to avoid annoying flared corners. A very gently textured topper is ideal for ease of cleaning, but deep grooves will collect crumbs and stains. Super smooth surfaces, while attractive, invite slippingespecially when wearing socks. Finally, aesthetics matter for this tool. We liked mats that offered a variety of colors and patterns, or at least blended into the background with basic colors.

Can You Put A Chair On An Anti

Most anti-fatigue mats are designed for standing and would be difficult to wheel an office chair on. Regular chair legs may also puncture or damage the cover on a mat. If you want a mat for an office desk or other area where you may sit and stand, look for a small mat that can go in front of your chair.

The first thing that stands out with user reviews for this mat is the fact that it actually stays in place. The grip on the bottom of this matt is much more reliable than that of other brands we have looked at so far. This, along with those beveled edges should mean that it is a safe option for seniors as they work in the kitchen or any other area of the home.

The pros and cons of this floor mat.

PROS

  • the durability of the surface
  • the chemical smell.

For the most part, users are really happy with the comfort offered with this mat. The foam is responsive and soft enough to ease pain and fatigue, without getting too squishy and unsupportive.

These mats are a little smaller, with the largest measuring 24 by 70 inches. Still, there are a couple of problems with this mat. The first is the fact the surface color chips off with repeated wear. Users that want this in their kitchen for daily use may find that the design and look of the mat dont hold up too well after a few months.

This may be reduced with bare feet rather than shoes, but this may not be a good idea for all those using the matt for foot and joint problems. Others have pointed out that there is quite a strong smell that emanates from the mat after it has been unboxed. This can wear off with a little airing but may be overpowering at first, especially for those with health issues.

Firmness: Like Standing On A Cloud

We placed the mat in front of the standing desk we use at home and proceeded to work on our computer for nearly an hour. We typically work more from our couch than our desk, so the fact that we barely noticed 60 minutes tick by is a testament to the mats comfort level.

After testing several anti-fatigue mat options, it was evident upon our first use that the Sky Mat is softer and thicker than most competitors. As we stepped onto the mat, we felt our feet sink in slightly, but not so far as to be unsupportive. We most often used the mat barefoot, but we also tested it out with shoes and found it to be just as comfortable.

We typically work more from our couch than our desk, so the fact that we barely noticed 60 minutes tick by is a testament to the mats comfort level.

Some of this review will, inevitably, come down to personal preference, but we have to say that after testing three different anti-fatigue mats, this was the only one to completely win us over in terms of cushion and support. Sky Solutions claims that their mat reduces pressure on your lower back, feet, and knees up to 32 percent. While we have no way of verifying that statistic, we were able to stand strain-free for much longer than usual. We cant help but mention that our cats took a liking to it as well. They immediately gravitated toward and it quickly became a new favorite nap spot.
