Chronic Muscle Soreness And Fatigue | Effects of Salt Reduction

Weakness and fatigue are nonspecific symptoms that may be encountered in a bewildering number of medical and psychiatric disorders they also may be the expected physiologic consequence of normal human activities 17). Most patients with weakness or fatigue have self-limited conditions and do not seek medical care. Among those who visit a physician, weakness and fatigue are often part of an easily identified symptom complex. The patient who presents with chronic weakness or fatigue as the sole or major complaint may represent a more difficult diagnostic and therapeutic problem.

The bedside examination is of unique value in evaluating these symptoms. The initial history and physical examination usually allow the clinician to characterize the problem as medical, psychiatric, or physiologic in origin. In a specific patient, weakness or fatigue may be due to multiple causes, or the cause may not be initially apparent.

A precise understanding of the patients description of weakness or fatigue is imperative. Is there a loss of muscle strength, or is the problem a vague loss of energy, weariness, or lassitude? True weakness usually indicates a medical disorder. Fatigue, in contrast, may result from medical, psychiatric, or physiologic causes. Other symptoms should not be confused with weakness. For example, some patients speak of weakness when they are actually experiencing shortness of breath, generalized malaise, or joint pain and limitation of motion.

The Initial Causes Symptoms: Muscle Pain Fatigue Muscle Weakness Joint Stiffness

Joint pain may be caused by a variety of causes. Inflammation and infection can affect the joints, and it is necessary to see a doctor to get a proper diagnosis. However, certain types of joint pain are not a serious health problem and can be treated by yourself. Moreover, joint pain can be the result of a broader range of factors, such as stress, illness, and genetics. When you have recurring joint pain, you should seek help from a doctor as early as possible.

Inflammation and pain in the joint can be caused by many conditions, including RA and sacroiliac joint inflammation. The inflammation of a joint causes the pain. For example, a person suffering from RA may experience lower back pain or iliosacral joint pain. These problems can occur in both the upper and lower back. When the sacral bone becomes inflamed, there will be inflammation of the sacral joint. The painful area is called the sacroiliac bone.

In addition to RA and gout, joint pain can also be the result of numerous medical conditions. For instance, a person suffering from fibromyalgia will experience joint pain that is accompanied by fever, fatigue, and difficulty walking. The symptoms of these conditions can be triggered by a number of factors, but the most common underlying cause of the pain will most likely be a joint disorder. A person suffering from fibromyalgia arthritis may experience a painful condition known as septic arthritis. Symptoms: Muscle Pain, Fatigue, Muscle Weakness, Joint Stiffness

What Are The Symptoms Of Myasthenia Gravis

Patients with MG might first notice drooping eyelids, trouble chewing and swallowing, or slurred speech. MG can also cause muscle weakness in the legs or arms it can even cause breathing problems. Typically, motor control becomes worse during periods of exertion and gets better with rest.

Sometimes periods of muscle weakness come on so suddenly that a person may have trouble breathing and will require medical assistance. This type of acute episode, called a myasthenic crisis does not occur in most cases. However, these episodes can be exacerbated by a number of factors, including pregnancy, infection, surgery, or some other trauma.

Some patients will experience symptoms involving their eyes only, which is referred to as ocular MG.

Home Remedies for Muscle Weakness

Also, the amount of muscle tissue must be normal, and the tissue must be able to contract in response to the signal from the nerves. Therefore, true weakness results only when one or more part of this pathwaybrain, spinal cord, nerves, muscles, or the connections between themis damaged or diseased.

Weakness may develop suddenly or gradually. Weakness may affect all of the muscles in the body or only one part of the body. For example, depending on where the spinal cord is damaged, spinal cord disorders may cause weakness only of the legs.

Symptoms depend on which muscles are affected. For example, when weakness affects muscles of the chest, people may have difficulty breathing. When weakness affects muscles that control the eyes, people may have double vision.

Complete muscle weakness causes paralysis. People may have other symptoms depending on what is causing the weakness. Weakness is often accompanied by abnormalities in sensation, such as tingling, a pins-and-needles sensation, and numbness.

What You Can Do

Whether your muscle weakness happens because youre not as active, or its due to age or a health problem, regular exercise may help you regain some strength. Ask your doctor for advice, or consider seeing a physical therapist to help you find a healthy exercise routine. As you get older, regular exercise also can help prevent or slow muscle loss and weakening.

Why Is My Leg Weakness Worse In One Leg

When leg weakness is worse in one leg compared to the other it is asymmetric. Some causes of asymmetric leg weakness include spinal cord damage that is worse on one side of the spine, abnormal growths that affect one side of the spine or one half of the brain more than the other, and injury to the leg nerves that is more pronounced in one leg.

Underactive Thyroid And Fatigue

Symptoms: Extreme fatigue, sluggishness, feeling run-down, depression, cold intolerance, weight gain

The problem may be a slow or underactive thyroid. This is known as hypothyroidism. The thyroid is a small, butterfly-shaped gland that sits at the base of your neck. It helps set the rate of metabolism, which is the rate at which the body uses energy.

According to the American Thyroid Foundation, about 17% of all women will have a thyroid disorder by age 60. And most won’t know it. The most common cause is an autoimmune disorder known as Hashimoto’s thyroiditis. Hashimoto’s stops the gland from making enough thyroid hormones for the body to work the way it should. The result is hypothyroidism, or a slow metabolism.

Blood tests known as T3 and T4 will detect thyroid hormones. If these hormones are low, synthetic hormones can bring you up to speed, and you should begin to feel better fairly rapidly.

What Causes Muscle Weakness

Muscle Fatigue: Why do muscles get tired and weak after exercise?

Muscle weakness is reduced strength in one or more muscles. Muscle weakness is a common complaint among patients presenting to the family physicians office 1). Although the cause of muscle weakness occasionally may be apparent, often it is unclear, puzzling the physician and frustrating the patient. A comprehensive evaluation of these patients includes a thorough examination and coordination of appropriate laboratory, radiologic, electrodiagnostic, and pathologic studies.

Determining the cause of muscle weakness involves distinguishing primary weakness from fatigue or asthenia, common conditions that differ from, but often overlap with, muscle weakness 2). Fatigue describes the inability to continue performing a task after multiple repetitions in contrast, a patient with primary weakness is unable to perform the first repetition of the task. Asthenia is a sense of weariness or exhaustion in the absence of muscle weakness. This condition is common in people who have chronic fatigue syndrome, sleep disorders, depression, or chronic heart, lung, and kidney disease 3). Because these conditions are prevalent in the general population, family physicians can expect to encounter patients with asthenia and fatigue more frequently than those with intrinsic muscle weakness 4).

Comparing Statin To Statin Do Some Cause More Or Less Muscle Pain Study: No Evidence For That

It has been suggested that some statins would cause less muscle problems than others. A March 2021 paper in the Journal of general internal medicine made a comparison. This is what the researchers documented:

Statins are effective lipid-lowering drugs for the prevention of cardiovascular disease, but muscular adverse events can limit their use. Hydrophilic statins may cause less muscular events than lipophilic statins due to lower passive diffusion into muscle cells. The statin users were divided into groups:

New patient group 1: pravastatin 20-40 mg vs simvastatin 10-20 mg .

New patient group 2: rosuvastatin 5-40 mg vs atorvastatin 10-80 mg

New patient group 3: simvastatin 40-80 mg vs atorvastatin 10-20 mg.

Following the start of these prescriptions, the researchers waited until the first symptoms of muscular event during a maximum follow-up of 1 year. Each statin had their results recorded and compared against its group counterpart.

Statins Impact Energy In The Muscles

Common causes of muscle weakness

This idea that statins cause problems of energy and muscle pain is certainly not a new idea, doctors and scientists have been wrestling with this problem for some time. A 2013 study found that energy and muscle pain problems seen in people taking statins may be centered on the muscles inability to produce muscle energy.

This was the statement of findings from doctors at the University of Copenhagen who conducted this study:

. . . statin treatment affects the energy production in muscles. We are working on the assumption that this can be the direct cause of muscle weakness and pain in the patients.

Osteoarthritis affects the entire joint and causes inflammation and changes in the bone and connective tissues. Symptoms vary according to the severity of the condition. If you have this disorder, you might be experiencing pain in any joint. Its common to experience symptoms in the knee and hips. You may also develop bone spurs around the affected joint. Its important to consult with your doctor if you have these symptoms.

Symptoms of osteoarthritis include swelling and bone spurs around the affected joint. You may also experience soft tissue inflammation around the joint. Your doctor may prescribe pain relievers and suggest a program of physical activity. For those with severe osteoarthritis, surgery may be the best option. The best course of treatment depends on the severity of the condition and the symptoms youre experiencing. Ultimately, the best way to manage your osteoarthritis symptoms is to find a solution that works for you. Symptoms: Muscle Pain, Fatigue, Muscle Weakness, Joint Stiffness

Food Allergies Food Intolerance And Fatigue

Symptoms: Fatigue, sleepiness, continued exhaustion

Although food is supposed to give you energy, medical research suggests that hidden food intolerances — or allergies — can do the opposite. In fact, fatigue may be an early warning sign of food intolerance or food allergy. Celiac disease, which happens when you cant digest gluten, may also cause fatigue.

Ask your doctor about the elimination diet. This is a diet in which you cut out certain foods linked to a variety of symptoms, including sleepiness within 10 to 30 minutes of eating them, for a certain period of time to see if that makes a difference. You can also talk to your doctor about a food allergy test — or invest in a home test such as ALCAT — which may help you identify the offending foods.

Symptoms Of Chronic Fatigue Syndrome

The main feature of ME/CFS is a type of exhaustion known as post-exertional malaise, crash or payback. This means having flu-like symptoms after exercise and not having enough energy for daily activities.

Research shows that people with ME/CFS have a different physiological response to activity or exercise from other people. This includes abnormal exhaustion after any form of exertion, and a worsening of other symptoms. The response may be delayed, perhaps after 24 hours. Depending on the amount and type of exercise, it may result in post-exertional malaise for a few days, or serious relapses lasting weeks, months or even years.

  • problems with thinking, concentrating, memory loss, vision, clumsiness, muscle twitching or tingling
  • disrupted sleep
  • sore throat, tender lymph nodes and a flu-like feeling
  • inability to cope with temperature changes.

When Going To The Doctor

It is always important to consult a general practitioner when fatigue is present for more of 1 week and if it has not started any kind of physical activity, nor made any extra effort, such as a faxine, for example. In these cases, the doctor will assess the associated symptoms and will be able to ask for other examinations to identify the problem and initiate the most appropriate treatment.

How Is Myasthenia Gravis Diagnosed

Unfortunately, because the symptoms of MG are often subtle, they can be easily dismissed. It can take up to a year for some patients to receive a proper diagnosis. If muscle weakness continues with no other diagnosis, a doctor might begin to suspect MG. Next a patient is usually referred to a specialist.

Once MG is suspected, blood tests can often definitively diagnose the condition. Those tests measure the levels of antibodies in the bloodthe same antibodies that are activated by an overactive immune system.

A small percentage of patients will not have those antibodies detected in their blood and their ailment will have to be diagnosed with electrical testing. Yales Myasthenia Gravis Clinic offers an advanced diagnostic technique called electromyography . A repetitive nerve stimulation test will determine how well the nerve cells are communicating with the the main criteria of MG, being muscle cells.

There are three tests that are used specifically for diagnosing MG: anti-AChR antibody titers, the Tensilon test, and electromyography, including both the Jolly test and single fiber EMG. Used together, these three studies provide an accurate diagnoses for MG.

Over-the-counter pain medication and nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs are effective for moderate and severe cases. However, some cases of osteoarthritis dont respond well to these medications, and doctors will usually advise patients to seek medical advice before having surgery. If osteoarthritis is not yet severe enough, doctors will often prescribe over-the-counter medication to help reduce pain. In the worst-case scenario, they may prescribe a special drug to alleviate the symptoms.

In the case of severe cases, a doctor may prescribe corticosteroid injections to reduce inflammation in the affected joints. Repeated corticosteroids, however, can be damaging to cartilage. For severe cases, the doctor may prescribe joint replacement. This is a surgical procedure that replaces the damaged joint surfaces with artificial ones. It is often an expensive and lengthy procedure, but it will reduce the pain and improve the function of the joint.

As with other types of osteoarthritis, MIV-711 has the potential to reverse or slow down the progression of the disease. The drug has also shown promise in reducing the progression of osteoarthritis. In addition, MIV-711 has the potential to reduce the symptoms of osteoarthritis in the affected joints. This drug has been developed in a laboratory and is currently being tested on a clinical trial in patients with the condition.
