When the specific bacteria are identified, your doctor may decide to change antibiotics. In addition to antibiotics, it will be important to replenish fluids lost from loss of appetite, sweating, vomiting and diarrhea.

Sore Throat Fatigue No Fever Headache Chills Sore Aches Fatigue Throat ...

The condition doesnt affect fertility in men or women. However, there may be a higher risk of miscarriage in women who have anti-Ro or anti-La antibodies. Your doctor might suggest low-dose aspirin in the early stages of pregnancy to reduce this risk.

There arent usually any problems during or after pregnancy, and you may be able to carry on with some treatments, such as hydroxychloroquine, during pregnancy.

However, a very small number of women may pass anti-Ro or anti-La antibodies on to their baby during pregnancy. The baby could then develop symptoms, such as rashes and abnormal blood tests after birth.

These will clear up once the mothers antibodies have been lost from the babys blood. This can take anything from a couple of weeks to a few months.

In some cases, the antibodies affect the babys heart, causing it to beat slowly. If you have these antibodies, you should tell your obstetrician, as your babys heartbeat will need additional monitoring in the womb.

Why Your Whole Body Aches When Youre Sick

Coming down with a cold, virus or the flu is never fun. But sometimes you can push through if the symptoms arent too bad. Have a sore throat? Gargle. Feeling congested? Take a steam shower. Mild fever? Take fever-reducing medicine. Its bearable, though not ideal.

But once full-body aches set in , you may quickly find yourself out of commission. Unlike the muscle aches that can come on after one too many squats, body aches from an illness tend to cause dull pain and discomfort everywhere.

The good news is you can find some relief from full-body aches right in the comfort of your home. Heres what you need to know:

How Is A Sore Throat From Tonsillitis Treated

If the tonsillitis infection is bacterial like strep throat, then antibiotics are given. If the tonsillitis infection is viral, antibiotics will not help. The virus must run its course for the sore throat to resolve. For either type of throat infection, the following treatment measures may help:

    • Getting plenty of rest
    • Eating smooth, soothing foods like gelatin, ice cream, shakes, frozen desserts, and soup
    • Avoiding crunchy or spicy foods
    • Using a vaporizer
    • Taking over-the-counter pain relievers such as acetaminophen, naproxen, or ibuprofen. Children should not take aspirin.

If the tonsillitis infections occur repeatedly, or if the tonsils are interfering with sleep and breathing, the doctor may recommend a tonsillectomy, which is the surgical removal of the tonsils.

    Sore Throats From Environmental Factors

The surprising reason our muscles get tired – Christian Moro

Some sore throats may not be caused by being sick. Particles in the air from air pollution or fires can cause a sore throat. Fires in the western part of the United States have caused people to wear masks when going outside to protect their airways. Specks of burning building materials and noxious gases can cause a sore throat and other symptoms.

Smoking can also cause a sore throat. Cigarettes produce 7,000 chemicals, many of which are toxic. Children and the elderly are particularly affected by pollution and smoke in the air.

Low humidity in the air can cause a sore throat. Cold air is drier than warm air. Many people run space heaters in the winter in addition to forced air heating in the home, which compounds the problem of dry air.

Allergies can cause sore throats as well. Sinus congestion drains down to your throat and can result in a scratchy, itchy throat.

    Lyme Disease Antibody Test Procedure

The Lyme disease antibody test requires no advance preparation. A lab technician will swab the inside of your elbow with an antiseptic before drawing your blood. Your blood will be drawn from a vein in your arm using a small needle.

The blood draw should not be painful, though you might feel a slight prick when the needle is inserted into your vein.

The blood sample will be collected in a vial. The puncture site will be bandaged, if needed, after the needle is removed. After the blood draw, you are free to go home.

There are very few risks associated with the Lyme disease antibody test. Excessive bleeding is possible, but there may be an increased risk if you take blood thinning medications or certain anti-inflammatory drugs like:

    Treatments For Eye Symptoms

If your eyes are dry and sore, lubricating eye drops can be used to keep your eyes moist and reduce any friction. You can buy these yourself from chemists.

You might need to speak to your doctor or another healthcare professional and try a few different types of eye drops, before finding one that is right for you.

For very dry eyes, you may need to use ointment, gel or sprays as well as eye drops. Your doctor might give you eye drops containing ciclosporin or steroids if your eyes are inflamed.

Mucolytic eye drops can be given by your doctor if mucus has caused your eyes to become sticky. Paraffin-based ointments can be used at night to help stop your eyes being dry and crusty when you wake up in the morning.

If you need to use eye drops more than three times a day, its a good idea to use a brand that is preservative-free, as regularly using eye drops that contain preservatives can increase dryness and sensitivity. If you have corneal ulcers or infections, its important to speak to an eye specialist before using any products.

In some cases, an eye specialist may suggest punctal occlusion. This is where tiny plugs are inserted into the ducts at the inner corners of the eyelids. These are known as the puncta. This reduces the ducts ability to drain tears or eye drops from the surface of the eye.

Are Chills Serious Shivering And Goose Bumps Can Accompany A Wide Range Of Conditions From A Too

Maintaining our core temperature is one of the bodys most basic functions, and when that temperature is off or when our body thinks its off we get the chills.

Chills occur when the muscles contract and relax in order to make heat, says Rose Taroyan, MD, a family medicine physician at Keck Medicine of USC and clinical assistant professor of family medicine at the Keck School of Medicine of USC. This occurs when you are cold, but it can also be your bodys defense mechanism in fighting an infection.

Everyone knows the sensation of getting the chills when your environment is too cold. Thats usually a signal to put on more layers or turn up the heat. But there are many underlying medical conditions that can cause them, too. Read on for some common and not so common causes of chills.

How Will Sjgren’s Syndrome Affect Me

Though the symptoms can be uncomfortable and last quite a long time, you should be able to lead the life you want if the condition is treated properly. For most people, the condition only affects the tear and saliva glands, but some people may experience other symptoms, such as fatigue and joint inflammation.

If dryness of the eyes isnt treated, the front of your eye could become damaged and cause permanent sight problems. Seeing an optician regularly and using treatments for dry eyes can help stop this.

People with Sjögrens syndrome might be more likely to develop:

    • hypothyroidism, when the thyroid gland is underactive
    • Raynauds phenomenon, which causes the fingers to feel cold and turn blue
    • inflamed blood vessels, known as vasculitis, which can cause reduced blood flow
    • loss of feeling in the hands and feet, known as peripheral neuropathy
    • IBS, causing tummy pain, diarrhoea and constipation

The Coronavirus Has Been Linked To Neurological Problems Like Dizziness Confusion And Delirium

    Crystal Cox/Business Insider

Chinese researchers found that the virus can invade a persons nervous system, though the exact method is unknown. Its possible that the virus damages neurons in the nose, which allows it to cross over from the respiratory tract to the brain.

Scientists have also found evidence that the virus latches onto ACE2 receptors in the interior lining of blood vessels. From there, it might penetrate the barrier between the blood and the brain.

A study of 214 patients in Wuhan found that 36% of patients had neurological symptoms. These symptoms were more common among patients with severe infections.

Around 25% of patients experienced dizziness, headache, confusion or delirium, seizure, and impaired balance or coordination. Among those symptoms, dizziness was the most common, affecting nearly 17% of patients.

Another 9% of patients had symptoms associated with the peripheral nervous system, like nerve pain or impaired taste, smell, and vision.

Treatment Options And Prevention For Viral Throat Infection

Most causes of viral throat infections will resolve on their own without a specific antiviral treatment, especially in otherwise healthy individuals. Therefore, most treatment is focused on improving symptoms until the infection clears, including rest and hydration, soothing measures and pain medication, environmental changes and specific antiviral treatment.

These symptoms are present in a wide variety of medical conditions, including respiratory infections. To diagnose strep throat, your doctor may need to do a throat swab. If your symptoms came on suddenly, then you should contact your doctor right away.

While the list below can be considered as a guide to educate yourself about these conditions, this is not a substitute for a diagnosis from a health care provider. There are many other medical conditions that also can be associated with your symptoms and signs. Here are a number of those from MedicineNet:
