You may feel as if youre swollen everywhere when youre pregnant. That feeling is a problem, however, when the swelling is visible and extremeand localized in your face, hands, and feet. That could be a sign of preeclampsia, which happens when your blood pressure skyrockets and your kidney function is compromised. Preeclampsia is dangerous and potentially fatal when not treated. If diagnosed with it, you will be monitored closely by your doctor, who may prescribe blood pressure medication and recommend rest. Depending on the severity of your case and how far along you are in the pregnancy, you may also need to deliver before your due date. Moles That Bleed Or Change Are Red Flags

Having moles isnt inherently a problem, but moles that bleed or change form are red flags, says Daniel Aires, MD, JD, dermatologist with the University of Kansas Medical Center in Kansas City. The rule of thumb is to follow the ABCDE of your mole:

  • Asymmetric appearance
  • Diameter larger than a pencil eraser
  • Evolving size, color, and shape

The American Academy of Dermatology says these are warning signs of possible melanoma.

If there’s a history of skin cancer in your family, watch your moles even more closely. Routine evaluations can help find potential problems. If you have a concern about a mole, it may be wise to take a photo of it every six months to make it easier to notice changes over time.

What Is Chronic Fatigue Syndrome

Chronic fatigue syndrome is a complicated disease for doctors to diagnose and even fully understand.

CFS is a chronic condition that makes people feel very tired and weak. They can also have headaches, dizziness, or other physical symptoms. Sometimes they have emotional symptoms too, like anger or sadness.

Different people with CFS can have different symptoms. Many CFS symptoms are similar to those of other health conditions, like mono, Lyme disease, or depression. And the symptoms can vary over time, even in the same person.

This makes treating the illness complicated. No single medicine or treatment can address all the possible symptoms.

CFS is sometimes called myalgic encephalomyelitis . Myalgic means muscle aches. Encephalomyelitis means that there may be inflammation in the brain or spinal cord.

I Felt Odd Because I Wasnt Getting Better

Headache Disease Symptom Vertigo Pain, headache transparent background ...

Diane Matikowski, 61, is a school nurse from Wallingford, Connecticut, who volunteered at a rehabilitation facility after her school closed during the shutdown.

She felt it was her duty as a nurse to help where she could but she was exposed to coronavirus by a patient at the rehab on March 30. A day later, she started showing symptoms and she tested positive on April 3.

I knew I had it because I was exposed to a patient that had it and nurses werent told to wear masks back then, Matikowski said. My temperature was 100.6 and my doctor wouldnt send me for a test. So, there was a lot of feeling not validated. But I think doctors were frustrated too because they didnt know how enough about the coronavirus.

Matikowski said she was exhausted for more than three months. Her symptoms also included sore throat, loss of smell and taste, leg cramps and twitches, fevers, a rash, hair loss and memory issues.

I would be watching something on TV and couldnt remember what happened in the last scene, she said.

After about 80 days, depression and anxiety set in. Matikowski was retested on June 8 and received another positive result.

Before finding the long hauler Facebook group, I thought I was a freak, Matikowski said. I felt like people didnt believe me and I felt odd because I wasnt getting better. I just didnt know there were other people like me.

Now, she said, Im fearful.

What May Cause Headache And Fatigue

Fatigue and headache are shared symptoms of many conditions. Not all of these conditions are considered serious. However, some may require lifestyle changes or ongoing treatment.

As you consider the reasons why you may be experiencing headache and fatigue, make sure to think about your lifestyle, including your sleeping patterns, diet, and any medications youre currently taking.

Here are 16 conditions and other factors that could cause both headache and fatigue:

Possible Factors Involved In Fatigue

The factors below are associated with RA fatigue, meaning each factor may cause fatiguedirectly or indirectlyor is simply correlated with it.

Disease activity Rheumatoid arthritis is an autoimmune disease that causes inflammation in the joints. The immune system cells can release substances called cytokines, proteins that act as messengers throughout the body. Rheumatoid arthritis disease activity can spur a release of cytokines that lead to inflammation that leads to joint pain and possibly fatigue.

Anemia Between 20% and 60% of people with rheumatoid arthritis have abnormally low levels of red blood cells, a condition called anemia. People with anemia may experience fatigue along with other symptoms, including but not limited to pale skin, dizziness, or irregular heartbeat.

Some people with RA experience anemia as a result of chronic inflammation. Others may experience iron deficiency anemia because of chronic use of NSAID medications for treatment of arthritis pain.4

Not everyone agrees with the idea that anemia is the cause of RA chronic fatigue. At least one study found that patients fatigue correlated with RA disease activity rather than anemia.5

Headaches, when combined with dizziness, fatigue, and neck pain, can have debilitating effects on your body. There is an entire spectrum of effects that affect the physical and mental health of a patient suffering from these conditions. There are several medical explanations for experiencing these conditions simultaneously.

So what are the causes and treatments for headache, dizziness, and fatigue caused by neck pain? Neck pain by itself could point to a musculoskeletal injury. However, when the patient experiences headaches and dizziness, it could imply a serious underlying condition. They include migraines, dehydration, or tumors. Some treatments for this include topical, medical, and surgical procedures, as well as some lifestyle changes and maintenance medications.

What Is Sjgrens Syndrome

Sjögrens syndrome is an autoimmune condition. This means that the immune system, which is the bodys natural self-defence system, gets confused and starts to attack your bodys healthy tissues.

Inflammation is your bodys normal reaction to injury or infection. You might notice inflammation if you have a cut or a wound. It causes the affected area to hurt and turn red. It may also become hot, as fluid rushes to the area and causes swelling.

The inflammation seen in Sjögrens syndrome particularly affects the glands in your body that produce tears and saliva. This causes your eyes and mouth to become dry. Other parts of the body can also be affected, leading to dryness of the:

What Do Other Treatment Options For Vertigo Cost

Medications range from $500 $2,000 per year. And I dont think I need to discuss the issue of side effects any further.

A surgery could easily rack up $10,000. And again, these are typically useless.

Even a set of walking-canes, walkers and other support devices will cost hundreds of dollars.

Even if your health insurance pays for all this, it wont cover costly taxi fares when you cant drive yourself and other hidden cost of vertigo.

More importantly, no insurance will cover your pain, suffering and lost quality of life.

What Causes Headache And Nausea

Migraine headaches are a common cause of combined headache and nausea. Migraines can cause a variety of symptoms, including nausea, dizziness, sensitivity to light, and severe headache pain. Theyre often preceded by a visual or sensory disturbance, called an aura.

Other conditions associated with headache and nausea include dehydration and low blood sugar. Dehydration can occur when you dont drink enough fluid.

Low blood sugar can develop for a variety of reasons, including excessive alcohol consumption, medication side effect, severe liver or kidney disease, long-term starvation, and hormonal deficiencies. If you have diabetes, taking too much insulin can also cause low blood sugar.

Other conditions that can lead to headache and nausea include:

  • neck stiffness and a fever
  • vomiting for more than 24 hours
  • no urination for eight hours or more
  • loss of consciousness

If you suspect you need urgent care, seek help. Its better to be safe than sorry.

If you experience headaches and nausea on a frequent basis, even if theyre mild, make an appointment with your doctor. They can help diagnose your symptoms and recommend a treatment plan.

Persistent Leg Pain On One Side May Be A Blood Clot

Swelling and pain in one leg that doesn’t go away may signal that you have a blood clot inside a vein, known as deep vein thrombosis . These signs should be tended to at once, particularly if youre at higher risk for DVT. Risk factors that make DVT blood clots more likely get riskier with age. These include smoking, having surgery, being on estrogen-containing pills or hormone therapy, being immobile for a long period of time , being pregnant, and recently giving birth. A life-threatening pulmonary embolism can occur when a blood clot moves from one part of your body to your lungs and blocks a vital artery there. According to Dr. Simmons, about 70 percent of blood clots that travel to the lungs begin in the legs.

Miscarriage And Preterm Labor

Women with lupus have a higher risk of miscarriage and preterm labor, says Kaplan. Pregnant women with lupus also have a higher risk of preeclampsia, or high blood pressure, and signs that the kidneys and liver may not be functioning well. If you have lupus and do get pregnant , see a high-risk maternal-fetal medicine specialist who has expertise in how to best handle such pregnancies.

Sex Fertility And Pregnancy

The condition doesnt affect fertility in men or women. However, there may be a higher risk of miscarriage in women who have anti-Ro or anti-La antibodies. Your doctor might suggest low-dose aspirin in the early stages of pregnancy to reduce this risk.

There arent usually any problems during or after pregnancy, and you may be able to carry on with some treatments, such as hydroxychloroquine, during pregnancy.

However, a very small number of women may pass anti-Ro or anti-La antibodies on to their baby during pregnancy. The baby could then develop symptoms, such as rashes and abnormal blood tests after birth.

These will clear up once the mothers antibodies have been lost from the babys blood. This can take anything from a couple of weeks to a few months.

In some cases, the antibodies affect the babys heart, causing it to beat slowly. If you have these antibodies, you should tell your obstetrician, as your babys heartbeat will need additional monitoring in the womb.

Chest Pain Under Strain Get It Checked Out

In older white males, we know chest pain may be a sign of heart attack. But we havent gotten that same sort of education with women, Baechler says. Women fear breast cancer more than heart disease, but they are more likely to have heart disease. In fact, heart disease is the No.1 killer of women in America today, causing more deaths than all types of cancer combined.

If you lift something and have chest pain that youve never had before, get it checked out. You should also see your doctor about any new chest pain when you walk upstairs or exert yourself in some way. This is particularly important if the pain goes away after a short period of rest. Women are more likely than men to have atypical symptoms of a heart attack: shortness of breath, dizziness, nausea and vomiting, extreme fatigue, a cold sweat, or pain in the arms, back, neck, or stomach, Baechler says. Get these, and any of the more traditional symptoms, checked out.
